Optician
An optician is trained to dispense and fit spectacles and other optical aids, working from the prescription w4ritten by optometrist and ophthalmologist. Dispensing opticians advise patients on various types of lenses and spectacles frames, including advice on style, weight, and color. They advise patients on how to wear and care for their spectacles and, with further training as a contact lens opticians, their contact lenses.
Salary: $21,725 – $48,843

While there are no specific educational requirements for an optician, an associate's or bachelor's degree in opticianry may offer a competitive advantage. Opticianry courses educate students in the anatomy and physiology of the human eye, optical fundamentals and refraction. Through clinical training, students also have opportunities to learn about polishing, hand beveling, heat treatment, tinting and fitting glasses.
